Well, it's been pestering me to update for a few days now, so I thought I have a look.

Is appears to have busted MS videos done in Silverlight. It did that the last time I tried it.

I think the programmers' balancing act is how many people want these advanced features, compared to how many people want a fast browser.

Software often evolves into having an installation where users are offered a "Typical" installation, compared to an "Expert" installation. But... then you are inviting a host of new bugs!

also with this noscript thing you have to allow javascript, refresh and then allow pop-ups, refresh - it's clunky and had to use firefox the other day and really missed this (one piece) of functionality

I always do that anyway, as many web pages seem to have a half life of a few months.

I even grab entire web sites with wget if they are interesting and not too huge.

I used to use wget the same way, but I got overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I was gathering sometime last year. I ought to try again.

I'll be tempted to upgrade only if they have radically improved the atrocious Bookmarks functionality.

What this needs at the very least is a much larger window, where you can "bookmark" sites/pages by more than one keyword, and the ability to run a link-check on all saved links.

The link-check idea is a good one. Why not post it as an enhancement suggestion?

Mind you what I really want is a link-check that sees into the future and does a grab of bookmarked articles which will disappear next week.

Anybody else formulated an informed opinion about a complex piece of software within a few hours of its release? Obviously, pointing out that it does a bit more than Netscape Navigator 3 and therefore has a greater memory footprint than a piece of software designed for the days when 128MB was a huge amount of RAM for a desktop machine is an important point to make, but I was wondering if anybody had any views on some of the more recondite aspects of this release - stuff like the bit more that it does than Netscape Navigator 3, or indeed than Internet Explorer 4

There are other search engines out there. I recently tried these versus Google on some search or other and managed to dig out some better results:

DuckDuckGo
...

Those are new ones to me, and I'll check them out. Thanks!

It is hard to prove anything, but there is a feeling that Google are not the good guys any more.

You can easily add them to the search box in FF3 by clicking on the search box down arrow, selecting Manage search engines > Get more search engines and tapping the above names into the search there.

I've so far chickened out of trying FF4, so don't know whether the method is the same or not.

Adolf Hitler was a bit naughty. I have nothing to expand upon or back up that statement either.

fair enough, I guess it's because I took history at school and not 'the internal business relationships of google' that I know Hitler was a bad guy, I also missed the excellent 25-part documentary: 'how google and firefox work together' because I was busy watching 'the world at war'
