Why would anybody buy a DVD player with upscaling and HDMI?

I have a Blu-Ray player with downscaling and a SCART lead connected to my SD CRT TV.

WHS. HDMI is just another type of connection. However it has Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection functionality to ensure that certain HD signals (Sky, Bluray etc) are only viewable by paying customers.

Unless you use HD it will not be needed.
