FWIW, I've always found this feature in MS Word to be a bit flaky from Office 2003 onwards. I sometimes think the software is trying to be a bit too clever and falls over.

It's a fairly big document so copy and pasting each section into a new document isn't something I want to contemplate.
Just tried a new document and the same thing happens on the level 3 headers.. but I can at least right click and restart the numbering.
I think I'll try monkeying around with it some more and see if it fixes it
EDIT:
OK - it's now looking better. Although I have to manually go in and set the numbering value every time I start a new series of level 3 headers.Last edited by Spacecadet; 4 January 2011, 22:26.

That's screwy. I used the same notation in my last contract project completion doc. in Word 2007. On the Home tab of Word there should be a Paragraph section on the toolbar where you can set a multilevel list. So it increments correctly (or should do).
1. G
1.1. Hyhgb
1.1.1. Hghygh
2. H
2.1. Jjjk
2.1.1. Hygygyg
2.1.2. G
2.1.3. Hbfggh
3. Gg
3.1. Kjggf
3.1.1.

MS Word 2007 Numbered Headings Issue
I've got a problem with numbered headings in a document I'm working on.
Headings are defined as styles and I'm using them up to 3 levels deep. The third level though is not restarting the numbering after a new first or second level leaving me with:
1
1.1
1.2
1.2.1
1.2.2
1.2.3
1.3
1.3.4
1.3.5
2
2.1
2.1.6
2.1.7
I've tried right clicking and selecting "restart numbering at 1" but either the option is greyed out or it makes no difference (and then greys out)
I've also tried removing numbering from the third level heading style and reapplying it, this also makes no difference.
Any suggestions welcome!Tags: None
