Keep a keen eye out for offers, I got a 15.6" widescreen Lenovo laptop from Argos for £299 a few weeks ago. Not the latest and greatest thing, but it works just fine.

Suggestions - Sub 500 laptop for a friend in UK

Her requirements are as follows:

- disc drive
- compact (lightweight)
- fast (min 2GB?)
- high (good) res image

Looked at mac's, but they're out of her price range, she'll just do usual home body stuff plus play movies etc away with her kids.
