Mary - which camera did you buy in the end or are you still looking?

Some of the Sanyo Xacti fit your price range.
I use them, disposably, for my bicycle racing movies.
They can take really good stills, as well as HD movies. Both at the same time with the right combination of key presses.

That looks good, thank you mucho. Least I have some to look at now, thank you CUKers.Originally posted by Clippy View PostBased on this, I would see what cameras are on offer then Google some reviews.
Hot UK Deals is a good place to start for deals - IMO, you should be able to get what you are after for between £60 - £100.
I bought a Panasonic Lumix a couple of years ago and love it so, based on that, this recent deal looks good - the reviews linked in the deal post all seem positive.

I don't want to spend more than about £150...
Nice picture quality and a nice small size basically. She is not going to care about any manual features particularly, or anything more than turning it on, pointing it and pressing a button.

I've got one of those and I like it a lot. For some reason though Mrs PRC finds it too hard to use. She's not prepared to go beyond point and click though.Originally posted by gingerjedi View Post

She's never had one, and doesn't know anything about them. I have had two Nikon's and like them, but not keen on the Coolpix which is the one in the price range.Originally posted by The Wikir Man View PostI used to have an Ixus, but then moved to a PowerShot, but that doesn't fit the cost profile.
MP - has she had one before? If so, do you know the brand?
I find that camera users tend to be pretty brand loyal. I only buy Canon, I know that DiscoStu always recommends a Nikon.

and will she be using it indoors (i.e in pubs), if so decent indoor brightness might be a factor

The Canon ones are good. I have one (which has a better optical zoom and digital zoom). Been quite impressed with some of the quality i got from it.Originally posted by norrahe View Post

Decent camera - gift?
....I need a camera for my sister. I have got a Nikon, which is nice, but cost more than I'd be prepared to spend on her.
I don't want to spend more than about £150, and am currently a bit baffled by the reviews etc I've seen as I dunno what I'm looking for really.
