Previously on "Which phone, or more specifically Blackberry?"
i got a sim only on orange today as my mrs works for blackberry so i get mine free. Started playing with the 9700 today and quite like it. I've got an iphone which i'll prob upgrade in June when i imagine another one comes out as well but playing with the 9700 in the meantime, quite like it
The N900 is a very different phone to a blackberry though and is aimed at different people and markets. The nokia looks very powerful with an interface that refelects more an iPhone than a Blackberry. Same with taking the pictures and it gives so many options to share and distribute rather than normal boring phone options. The N900 looks well smart phone with some very new technology
Ive seen a BB contract for £20 per month for 18 months. I think it was 800 mins/unlimited texts and 1gb of download which seems quite good, although it was a cashback deal which doesnt worry me as ive done that before with no problems.
Im guessing unlimted download would maybe be another £5 a month?
I want a phone that i can put in my pocket and take out on night outs too and the bold seems too big for this really so i think it needs to be a curve if any at all.
I dont use my phone for music, just calling/texting/email/camera and facebook, thats about it.
I do think the N900 looks a bit over the top and not really necessary although im sure its an amazing phone spec wise.
I suppose it depends on what you use a phone for...
I changed from an N95 (which I've had for about 3 years) because it finally bit the dust.
I looked at the iPone - wonderful piece of equipment but doesn't do what I needed, so plopped for the Blackberry.
5 day battery life, good camera, email (incredibly easy to maintain) and a good phone. If you need a device for texting/emailing/phoning with the ocassional photo it is perfect. Go for the bold. Once you start using the "mini qwerty" you will never look back. Put google maps on it and don't bother with any fancy sat-nav stuff.
As a long term Nokia user I found it very easy to change to, which is a lot more than I could say for a brief flirtation with Sony-Ericson!
Oh and mine is only £25 pcm with ten hours of talk time, unlimited text/email/internet data on an 18 month contract with Voda, which I thought was a very good deal!
I think I would probably recommend against a Blackberry, especially if you don't want one of the 'Bold' models. I've currently got a Curve 8310 and it feels like a 90's phone in comparison to the new Android/iPhone models out there.
My current model is about 3 years old and its now starting to drop incoming calls, and needs a re-start once every day or so as it stops responding to user-input. I'm just eeking out the last few days of life on this thing before the end of my contract so I can upgrade to the HTC Hero.
I suppose the real question is: do you want something that goes 'ringy-ringy' and does e-mail in courier-new, or do you want something a bit more flash that you don't mind showing your mates down the pub?
I bought the missus a Bold 9700 for Christmas and she loves it! It's on a 2 year T-mobile contract for £36 a month. Unlimited internet & texts and 800 minutes per month.
Ive had my N95 8gb for a while now and love the phone to bits, i am a Nokia fan.
Ive got to decide on keeping the N95 and just getting a cheap rolling contract, upgrading to the new N900 or getting a Blackberry which really interests me these days as a lot of people i know have them.
Im just worried about the change from the Nokia to the BB.
My question is really which BB is the best? I dont want the massive bolds, so which model number curve is the lastest/best.
I like the 5mp camera on the Nokia so will i be disappointed with BB's lower resolution camera as i use this quite a lot.
Also does anyone have any comments on the new N900?
Oh and finally, the packages on the BB's i am looking at come with 1gb of download. How much is it to put an unlimted download package on your contract? Do all the phone companies charge the same amount or would one network be better than all the rest?
