You download the updates from the MS site, they all follow the format http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=xxxxxx. A simple script could be used to retrieve them.Originally posted by blacjac View Postgo on then, how do you use a linux box to install windows updates?
Set up Samba on the linux box to make the dowloaded patches available to MS boxes.
Get your MS boxes to dowload and install the updates from the linux box instead of the MS server.
Not saying it's practical or desirable, but it is doable.

Of course, if your dns service didnt get patched for all those nasty recent vulnerabilities then you may be getting your windows updates from some kind fellow in Moscow or Lagos.

Windows Update was recently sold to a Nigerian company. Everytime you update it's actually nicking your credit card details.

The majority of Windows Updates are vulnerability fixes, I'd rather trust the devil I know than the devil I don't...

Can you trust 'Windows Updates'?
Had the little yellow shield icon on my PC this morning telling me there are updates to install. Windows XP SP3.
I have started to install the update which is taking a while but I notice that Spybot is challenging quite a few of the registry entries which I guess is ok but I just wanted to know if we can trust these Windows updates or do we have to be careful?Tags: None
