If you want to boot a linux distro from a USB stick instead check out unetbootin... works a treat!

Really, what makes it bootable - specific files? I guess the BIOS looks for something....really, I don't know, no wind-up.

Yes, specific files.. But you can't just drop them onto a disc and expect it to be boot able..

If you really want to know about stuff like this, then have a read here..

Seeing that you have the .iso use this and create a bootable CD/DVD.

Install it - it's not a big program.
Then right click on a iso image and burn to CD - job done.

I use DVDDecryptor to burn ISO files to disc.. Freebie but hard to find after he was forced to take the site down.. If you want a copy, I'll put one up on my server..

I put the .iso file on disc, but it doesn't boot from that.

The .iso is a disc image, it's not the files themselves, you need a burner like Nero (or various free ones) to actually burn an iso to disc.
