Only if you have 4GB or more of RAM, IMO..

FWIW, I am running Vista64 on my laptop (Vostro 1700, 4GB) and it is rock solid.. For those apps that don't run, I use VMWare with XP..

There are some apps that are incompatible with a 64bit OS, so manufacturers put 32bit on..

I hear Dell Vostro's are quite good. Acer's are also quite cheap. Not sure if you can get a built-in webcam for that price point though.

It appears I'm unable to recommend a laptop for under £500, and unable to read posts properly

My ThinkPad keeled over yesterday and now makes the sound of a cricket in its death throes. Fortunately I had the foresight to buy the 3 year warranty and next business day response (had it for 2 yrs and 9 months) and I will have an engineer out with a new motherboard on monday

So new ThinkPad + 3yr warranty is the way to go IMO
