Think I've done DEFSTAN. One of those defence standards designed to making IT utterly boring. I always thought the most effective method to write software for military aircraft was TAESTAN AKA Trial And Error Standard. If the aircraft crashes on take off you need to modify the software.

What is "DEF STAN 00-55/56"?
I've seen a couple of roles asking for "safety management (eg DEF STAN 00-55/56)". I assume that means Defence Standards 00-55 and 00-56.
A Google search did not educate me. Can someone point me at / provide a summary - in English rather than MoD jargon! - of what that is, please?
(I just know I missed a blatantly obvious link ... but which was it?
)
