This happened to a friend...it caused him all sorts of issues and ended up with him taking his site down for a few weeks...

I've had my personal email spoofed for them share quote scam things - I got some quite threatening emails from some people who were pissed off at receiving spam, even though anyone with half a brain knws that the from address is never the real address for mass mailed spam.

Are you sure that the mails are originationg from the IP that is your mail server, they could just be putting your e-mail address in the reply-to field.

You're not clear where the problem lies. Is it a problem with the web server scripting engine validating addresses or a problem with the SMTP daemon being used as an open relay?

Securing mailer

A few weeks back it was clear some bastards were using the mailer on my business website as I was getting a lot of returned mail. Stopped most of it by changing name and location and upgrading to more secure version of dodos mail , but am still getting the occasional return mail. Really don't want to complicate usage by using captcha.

Any experience of other (free or cheapish) more secure mailers with reasonable options? My hosters provide one but it's rubbish (does not check customer email validity or auto send a response and opens home page on exit) Looked at postfix but can only seem to download as a UNIX tar file.
