Guest repliedBasic installs of MS word doesn't always include the RTF converter - strange that it disappeared about the time Microsoft decided to attack the mail market whose leader was Lotus Notes (which uses RTF extensively). So despite RTF being considerably safer than .doc you can't allways use it.

Guest replied> So what would you recommend?
Personally I've got 3 versions - text, html and WordDoc - might add PDF to it.
My recomendation would be to give your CV in the format that is most appropriate to situation - if they ask for DOC then give them what they want.
Oh yeah,. its best to default to Word 95 .DOC format - not some fancy new Word 2003 or whatever it is.

Guest repliedAlmost everything reads RTF.
Tends to come out a bit odd on occasion, but I can live with that.
Used WordStar for years, ah, dear dead days beyond recall.
Had to use a dos editor with WS commands the other day & was completely lost for about 5 mins til it all came back to me.

So what would you recommend?
Straight text is my preference for CVs.

Guest replied"Bear in mind that some places REQUIRE Word CVs."
Sad isn't it?
OpenOffice to the rescue if I need it then.
But an awful lot of stuff comes as .PDF nowadays. Of course agencies won't like them because it's harder to copy and paste from them, but for display purposes they get the thing as _you_ intended it to be seen, rather than depending on _their_ Word settings.

Guest repliedhe wants dynamic date - if you want "effective from .. to ..." then you might as well use Word or HTML. Bear in mind that some places REQUIRE Word CVs.

Guest repliedWhy don't you use a PDF with an effective date in the name? No Word issues then.

Guest repliedyeah and require Excel to be present :lol

Guest repliedHad a quick look at that.
Insert an Excel Object, Enter a normal Excel formula and then format the Object. It wont send a MSGBOX but you can put a simple IF.ELSE conditional statement with formatiing to give you your header.
Nuff Said.

Guest repliedto solve the original problem - I'd include image into word document referenced to your website and this image - which can be unique for each version of the document can show whether its outdated version or not.
Added bonus is that you'd know that your CV was opened - a wee bit of technical analysis and you'd know the company who opened it

a. I know the sender
b. I have spoken to the sender and they have confirmed they have sent it.
Anyone who doesn't follow this can kiss their PC goodbye IMHO.
