If you atre just trying to stop a spammer then you can get the originating IP from the headers and then use whois to get the owner of the IP range it's from. Drop a mail to their abuse mailbox with the relelavent details.
Otherwise, as has been said, you need to get the lawyers involved. ISP's wont release information on their customers without a warrent/sub poena.
Otherwise, if what is involved is illegal pass it to the police. No guarentee anythign will happen but thats about all you can do.

To get the personal details of a subscriber to a service such as hotmail, ISP's etc you need a warrant. And they are pretty unobtainable unless you are talking major crime (paedos/fraud/IR35 etc)...

Tracing a hotmail, yahoo, google, etc, email?
Hi,
Is it possible to trace who is the sender of web based emails such as hotmail, yahoo, google, etc?
I see that there are some online tools that claim to do this but surely all they would do is let you know what the original IP Address of the sender is - surely you would then need to be able to put a name, address, etc, to that IP Address which is next to impossible (I assume ISPs would not hand out this information?)
Anyone know of any good online resources or tools for this?
