    I record the same information except that I bought a "proper" log book from a stationers. Each month I add up the total miles and then pay myself my allowance. I have a speadsheet recording the mileage for that month, the annual accumulative mileage and the amount paid so I know when to change form 40p to 25p.

    BTW, you should keep a log for each vehicle used (so I am told).

    I am asking a wrong question here, I think

    As there tool that supports 'required details' to satisfy THE TAXMAN if they have a query on mileage claims... or there is no much requirement as log as you produce something with records in some form.
