I used Cyberlink's PowerDirector when I first started editing home videos. It was decent and easy to pick up, but after a while, I found it limiting when I wanted to go deeper into colour grading and effects. I shifted to DaVinci, too. It's more pro-level and free, which is hard to beat. But Cyberlink is fine if you're doing occasional projects and want something simple.
I usually convert files first for format conversions and prepping clips before editing, especially when I get odd formats like M2P. I've had good luck with this M2P converter when I needed quick and clean conversions without messing up quality or syncing. You can check it here: https://www.movavi.com/video-convert...converter.html

My reply would be the same as the one I gave 3 years ago - I use DaVinci Resolve, it's free and does a very good job.
