If it's just for Netflix/amazon, blast it away and see if that helps, if it doesn't and it's too annoying to bear, your only real option is replacement with a cheapo android slab.

The apps I'm running on the iPad2 are the same ones I was running 6 years ago. There's no reason things like video playback should be slower in the newer OS, or simply responding to a touch/home button. It was running OK on iOS 9.x initially so maybe it's some point update... or maybe it's just got all screwy and needs a clean install. I do recall in the past iPads would 'steal' space and report they were virtually full when they weren't - you could recover Gbs.
We'll see what happens. My iPad3 still runs pretty well and the 2 is literally just for Netflix/Amazon Prime so upgrading it seems pointless.

Unfortunately the path for downgrade is extremely painful and requires itunes backup with the older version or Jailbreak.
I have (or rather had as I gave it to the in-laws) a battered (literally, my son smashed the glass 3 times) iPad 3 that is running the latest iOS - yes it's sluggish, but very much usable, so this might not be the root of the problem.
The reality is that iPad 2 is a 6 years old piece of kit that might just be due for upgrade.

Try the wipe option, how many apps do you have to reinstall after that? Restoring from icloud/itunes backup should bring all your apps back automagically

Older iPad dog slow
My trusty iPad2 has been working just fine for Netflix in the home gym until recently when it's become really slow... with no apps running, just launching the Settings app takes several seconds and generally there's a lag of 1-2 seconds from every action I take.
Rebooting the device makes no change so I'm wondering about a reset - I notice I have at least one app in a broken state... can't run, can't remove.
It's been years since I did this and I don't want to make more work for myself... if I reset it from the Settings menu will I have to re-install every app manually?
I've got iTunes on my Mac but rarely use it and am nervous lest I accidentally wipe the iPad since I've used several iPads on it in the past.
