HP Vertica anyone with real world experience of it ?

I'm looking at new analytical db platforms, I can't pick anything but its either got to be HP Vertica or Oracle Exadata as the company has already got licenses for these and infra. I am doing POC's etc and I'm focusing on the HP Vertica side of things, I wondered if people on this forum had any real world experience of HP Vertica and can comment on it, is there anything I should be aware of with it, anything particularly flaky about it. I would be using it primarily for load and reads, ETL side would be done else where, concurrent read performance is key as will be back end to dashboards.

The only thing I would add is that really you need to find a platform which does what you need - rather than using a platform based on what you already have and then trying to make it work.

I believe Eek meant it to be a check of how wide spread the tech is and how useful it might be for your future prospects, not for you to hire people to do the job.

Personally i have no experience with either product, but giving the fact that HP is rapidly disintegrating and their support is not the most helpful one, my gut (which hates Oracle in general) says that Oracle is the better choice, unless some vital functionality is missing from their product.

+1. There are few things where you name the company and you think, nah, actually Oracle is the less painful option. HP is one of those...

I know people who use Exadata. I can't even remember anyone in HP using Vertica...

I don't have budget to hire at the moment, who does ? Its worth a punt asking here I thought, I just get the sales patter internally I want an unbiased view, though the fact HP just sold it doesn't feel me with confidence, I've found Oracle themselves to be rather arrogant when working with them on the POC which is shame so pushing me to HP.
