I think he's being honest. The Xeons were released earlier and some of the later i7's have better built in GPUs.

That is probably important with some of those laptops as the 5510 doesn't support a discrete GPU unlike the 7510.

I hope you realise that the there is no difference between Xeon and Core of the same generation in terms of CPU performance?

The only difference is that Xeon works in multiple CPU sockets systems like servers and sometimes missing/lower end built-in GPU in the Xeon.

That being said unless you are aiming and 2 CPU Laptop monstrosity it's just marketing leading people to believe Xeon is better and more "professional" being a server CPU

I'm getting a bit impatient for the new MBP (and pushing my own expectations higher) so have been looking at Xeon laptops today.
Hell, I've just bought a midlife crisis car, why not a Xeon too?

There seem to be three players in town that offer Xeon laptops intended for business use and I'm leaning strongly towards the Dell 5510. I don't want to go to big, the MBP 13 is perfectly sized and the Dell 15 is just a tad larger although a lot heavier.

(I know there are others out there such as MSI and custom built ones but I haven't liked the form factor of any of them)

I'm curious to hear from anyone who has actual first hand experience with Xeon powered laptops?

My main regret moving away from Apple would be leaving the OS X environment. I feel it gives me much more depth of experience running both (OS X daily, W10 VM for dev). I wouldn't miss OS Xs instability though...

I have the Dell 7510 as it was stupidly cheap on the outlet when I bought it - very nice it is too but booting can be slow (10 seconds) as it checks all 48gb of memory (about 9 of those seconds). The Quadro M2000M is useful for playing with AI stuff.

The Dell 5510 is basically the Dell xps 15 with business support.

I built my own via PC Specialist rather than buying off the shelf. Took a week or so to arrive, but it has everything that I want.

Last year I bought a HP Omen laptop - it's actually a gaming machine so it's built for speed. 16gb Ram, 256 gb m2 SSD, 4gb Nvidia 940 (ithing) and an i7 Quad core, only a 1080 screen but it's a touch one. It was 1099 from John Lewis....£100 cheaper than HP were selling it for. Everything was great until it's battery stopped charging 2 weeks ago. JL gave a 2 year guarantee with it and apparently the battery is covered by this, so it will be sent away very soon. My old laptop which is still going strong is a dell XPS. Again it's an i7 Quad core. It came with 6gb ram (now has 16) and a 540gb HD (Now 512 gb SSD) and still goes like stink. It also has a dedicated graphics card

Really? I have a Mac and have had to reboot several times due to OS patches, various SW updates etc. It is not really the utopia Mac people seem to imply it is. Don't get me wrong I think it's a good piece of hardware, but not really amazing.

Went for a 2-in-1 Lenovo Yoga 900 a few months back after looking at the New Microsoft Surface Book options. Love that it's nice and light with great battery life. Really impressed by its build quality for 13.3" and it boots / comes out of hibernation in seconds with it's SSD.

Plenty of dock options for connecting Ethernet/HDMI etc..
Screen is a tad shiny, but can be countered with a matt screen protector.
