    Yes, exactly as you described. Host it yourself to avoid messy hosting co. involvement. You should also run it on a non-standard port so that the usual search bots dont accidentally find it and catalog it!

    You should probably also have it restricted to registered users and carry out the registration in some unrelated manner. Like for instance via PM's on an unrelated web forum perhaps...
