You just stop thinking about it as time passes. You're counting each hour let alone each day in the first few weeks. A regular smoker would tend to have a smoke at fairly regular times each day and suddenly these little delimiters are gone so the change to the whole routine knocks you out of kilter as well.Originally posted by fridge View PostGave up fags 2 wks ago and i feel like $**te.Actually I could have one right now so thanks guys for reminding me about it.
guess i'll have to have a cold shower or som'it
I also think you have to be prepared to modify other aspects of your life as well. I know if I was the sort of bloke to go down the pub each night, there's no way I would every have given up. Getting older and having kids = less pub time, which made it easier to kick it.
Most ex-smokers are well aware that if they went out on a big beer session, there's a distinct possibility of having a tab when the old rational thinking goes AWOL. That's when I've folded in the past and you end up feeling really guilty and annoyed at yourself. Don't do that.
It gets easier, honest!

MY other half was poorly over Christmas just gone and needed to go into hospital for a good few weeks, initially she was complaining about being dizzy, headaches etc... I didn't have the heart to say she was going through cold turkey. She hasn't had one since but giving up that way was a little severe

Stick with it. First 2 weeks are some of the hardest. If you can get to around 12 weeks you are almost home and dry.Originally posted by fridge View PostGave up fags 2 wks ago and i feel like $**te.Actually I could have one right now so thanks guys for reminding me about it.

If you want a second opinion, SA, I would be very happy to have a sniff around and provide an itemised report.

Sal, maybe you left a little bit of cheese or cheese grease just below your nose?
How many days without fags?
I'm thinking of taking it up (again) it certainly cheers me up (until I need another one!).
