MIL psychocandy has always been a bit of a PITA. Very needy. Expects my wife CUK to do everything for her him.

Funny really. Sadly never knew my MIL as died before marriage to wife. But wife was complaining about my mom the other day. My wife is heading off on a trip end of May and my Mom rang to say that she'll be flying over to "take care of me" while wife is away.

Got the wife in a tiz. LOL

Yeh she does help out. Yes we always appreciate here. Wife is constantly telling her, we buy her flowers and gifts etc to say thanks.

I think her main issue is and she keeps harping on about this. In her day, her mother never looked after her kids at all ever - it wasnt the done thing (she says).

So, even though, now her husband is gone, she sees it as her kids duty to look after and make sure shes ok. However, anything else like helping out in return is seen as a huge favour on her behalf because its not something she should be doing.

However, if she didnt want to babysit then fair enough. But its more than that.

Yes considered getting a carer but its not really what wife wants - a stranger in the house etc. All she needs is a day or two help for someone to watch the baby for an hour or two each time.

Get an au pair in. It will cost you less than having to maintain the MIL in the manner to which she is accustomed.

Au pair or pump the MIL, remember your wife will turn into your MIL in 20 years

Plus you're more likely to be on totty watch than with the MIL unless you have very niche interests
