Hey. I really need my own house, or better still castle. House prices are expensive here and I can't wait till I go grey to inherit a place of my own. I'm one of those failed contractors that only works around 150 or so days a year, due to demand. I could just splash out and by a house in chelsea but would then be broke. I hate mortgages and all that crap. Being a bit arrogant as ive downed a few bottles of wine, but seriously i need my own place. Tripping over servers and cables. My home is a makeshift server farm.

Aylesbury? Lived there with my brother for a while... there is nothing there. The usual UK high street. The usual chav colony. Sharons getting married wearing rings from argos. And bouncers getting shot by people they refused the night before.

Which means you're not in the Greater Manchester area. One less contractor for me to compete with then.

Marlow may be nice, but it's right next to the terrorist and stabbing capital of the uk (High Wycombe)

Really you have to live somewhere very close to your work given the traffic situation/overcrowding.

One thing I noticed when I first moved to the South East, if you ask someone how far somewhere is they will tell you the travelling time rather than the distance, that's because a 20 mile drive can take an hour!

    advise

I think I was pretty clear that I wouldn't recommend the place. But the natives with their eyes too close together do help keep the prices down, and since they built the M40 15 years ago some of the locals have started to venture to far off places like Oxford or Warwick.

1h20 direct train to Marleybone, or 1h30 changing at Reading to get to Paddington if you must, or about 45mins drive to the M25 on a good day.

(there is a lot of incestuous relationships going on at Banbury and surrounding villeges) ...

Aviod Banbury like the plague ... and no Banbury is not 2 hours away from London .. its 2 hours to get to Paddington then another 45 min to get to the city, hence commuting to London is not an option !!

I wouldn't really recommend the place, but you'd get a decent house for £250K here in Banbury, and London, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham and Cambridge are all within 2 hours journey time. It's about the only reason I haven't left - I figure it's good for options and cheaper than the proper Thames Valley.

Good idea. And if you live somewhere halfway on the Cambridge-London line, you can have access to both - 30 mins each way.
