Got my first microscope when I was 7, so puncturing myself so I could look at blood became the norm. Progressed to ear piercing in the girls' loos at school using a blunt and not very clean needle when I hit my teens, then a DIY tattoo a few years later, with DIY tattoo removal about a year after that, so never been too bothered by needles!
