Somewhat slightly related to this in the sense that it relates to outdated / sexist attitudes to the female form was a set of signs I saw on a beach in France as a young gal whilst on holiday with my folks.

Now, I wish I had a pic of one of these because they are actually quite amusing in an ironic post modern sense of the word. Basically, the promenade running in front of the beach had its lampposts adorned with these signs and they would run in an alternating sequence. The first sign would show a cartoon of a perfectly formed topless sunbather - pert little boobs, nice rear end etc accompanied by a big red tick. The alternate sign in the sequence showed another topless bather but this one resembled a beached whale and was accompanied by a big red X.

One used to see a lot of toplessness on French beaches but it's been a long time since I've been down to the Riviera. Innerestingly, friends and acquaintances that have been tell me it's less prevalent than once upon a time.

What on earth is happening to the French? Health obsessed, non smoking, but prudish? Surely not...
