    Not knowing what exactly what a program is doing is easily achieved.
    For example a recursive mini-max brute force algorithm to play chess (as I wrote for my first degree project) is knowable in theory but because of the increasing branching and depth is hard/impossible to analyse in practice.
    The fact that it is effective is more impressive.

    Google no longer understands how its "deep learning" decision-making computer systems have made themselves so good at recognizing things in photos.
