A site where clients post contract roles and contracts post CV's/profile/availability etc.

The system would match them up each day depending on the info. Small monthly charge for posting roles/CV's.

Strange thing that inverse snobbery. Went to a wedding in the UK a while back and experienced it first hand. Strange thing. You don't get that down under.

How are they funding their alternative lifestyles? Or are they poverty tourists?

Some scrape a living selling the odd painting or sculpture within their network, some live off partners or parents, but then you don't need much if you live in the east wing of your parents' country pad. Some are politicians, a few are aid workers who are paid a pittance in pounds but live in parts of Africa or Asia that are so cheap that if you've got hard currency then you're rich.

A few of us actually work in industry/business and pay our own way; I must be doing something wrong.

Maybe because that is all they know? If your grandfather and father were well educated and had a successful business career, you are going to expect at least as much out of life.

LinkedIn is good enough. The only reason I ever go through an agent now is if they have approached me about the role. Mine the LinkedIn groups in your niche, and send a message to members with your details asking for work...I do it and it works. I got a very well paid gig in Asia like that.

Word of mouth is the best way though. I've got a bigger network in my niche than most agents working in that niche. I know people on projects all over the world. Keep bumping into them, or people who know them, on the circuit.
