I think there is so much money in sport, or success in sport now, that the idea of any team not using any and everything to give them even a slight, even perceived advantage is quite laughable.

I remember Australians lambasting us for using Saffers in our cricket team, but now look at their rugby union and league teams. Even this summers ashes featured a Pakistani whom they fast tracked through their residency conditions. Kiwis have been up to it for years.

I think Wilshere's suggestion is old fashioned, if not a touch naive. I'd also look at most people and ask them if they thought they were 100% english, as I know I am not, nor my wife, and you'd imagine us to be english as english could be.

That's the biggest load of Betty Swollocks I've read in a long time. Scots and Tories are not mutually exclusive and it wasn't that long ago (1955) that the Conservatives had over 50% of the vote and half the seats in Scotland. And if anyone votes for any of the miserable shower of politicians we have and doesn't expect to get lied to then they don't deserve to have a vote.

I think it's fair to give the criteria for being considered 'Scottish' by the future Scottish government before people are asked to make an informed decision whether they want independence.

Yeah yeah whatever. The thing is that outside of football and rugby scotland don't have a team, and most people that come over and adopt their new homeland become English, they don't become Scottish because a big part of Scottishness is hating the English and they have no reason to. So they become British, yes, but when it comes to the home nations rivalries they usually become English.

Ah, so we're just talking about sport? And sportspeople? Then they only become "English" for purely mercenary reasons. Much to the detriment of native youth development in the sporting arena.

No. Just any of them that gets into bed with the tories. Do you think the same Scottish Liberal MP's currently in parliament will see a 2nd term? Not on your nelly, the electorate will make them pay for such traitorous behaviour. It's part of the reason why lib-dems (typically strong in Scotland) have suffered so much recently.
