    The z80 is still around as an embedded processor. It may actually outnumber x86. Would be interesting to see some stats.

    Interestingly, Wikipedia say the z80 was designed to be binary compatible with the 8080, which influenced the design of the 8086 (also binary compatible) so it's more a case of common ancestry than cloning by the sound of it.
