    Sounds legit:

    each individually hand-grafted. Like potatoes, tomatoes are members of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), which makes them compatible for grafting.
    Lots of plants are grown as hybrids from grafting. All fruit trees are cuttings from a parent grafted onto the root base of another tree. Same with roses
