An agent account manager I was talking to said that people are far more likely to accept LinkedIn requests from pretty female agents than blokes. Gets them into your contacts far more easily.

I remember a chat with a law firm partner years ago on a similar subject, I suppose it's the same thing for agents. I commented that he had a lot of young pretty women in his department, he said that if he's going to spend 10-14 hours a day in an office with no life while taking the risk of being an owner of a company then he's not going to settle for having to spend the time with fat munters or beardy old blokes. Not very PC but, well, I can see his point...

I work with a handful of agents who are decent, likeable, intelligent, make good conversation and (shock horror) actually appear to work for me; even calling with minor updates about contract negotiations rather than me having to chase them.

They seem to recognise that good quality, marketable talent is harder to find than clients.

I've come across, I think, two like that. On the phone at least, cos I'd still never meet the bellends.

I forgot to highlight what I was asking about - i.e. why he was there in the first place. I've never accepted a pimps request for lunch, dinner, or coffee.

No I quite agree however it just seems to be the way with some - both Hays and Lorien have asked me to visit a local office in the past so they can count my heads.

If it's wall to wall totty, they are more than welcome to take a look at mine...

I'd never do the lunch, coffee thing though as they are utterly pointless and we just don't live (or trade) in that world any more. Pimps have one use for me and it doesn't involve a special relationship unless it equals more £££ per day.

If the agency are paying and it's not out of my way, then I wouldn't be fussed. Had lunch with one and a quick afternoon drink with another, which was time I still billed. I get evening Christmas invites from some agencies every year, and the thought of travelling to London to spend an evening watching people I don't know or like get pissed isn't high on my bucket list.

I use two agencies. They find me work, I earn them money. I have good relationships with them and I very occasionally get taken out for meals. None of this makes me feel important whatsoever, it's just life. You obviously deal with the wrong pimps.
