I can't actually believe that this has happened and that military action is not an option for the UK - I am in complete shock about this actually. If this is actually the final decision then I have to praise the democratic nature of the decision and say there is hope after all in British politics....

Pretty good democratic result actually - given Iraq "mistake" evidence currently available is piss poor, so it's only right to vote against it. The evidence needs to be so convincing that Bashar Asad would vote himself for the air strikes.

Government have lost!
I was going to insert a banana but that may be a bit inappropriate given the circumstances

The same could be asked about all the other neighbours - Saudi, Qatar, Jordan etc. The only country that has already got involved is Israel with their attack earlier in the year.....Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostTurkey has a bloody huge well equipped army; why don't they get stuck into Assad? Is it because they realise it's a highly dangerous enterprise? Is it possibly because the Turkish military might not support the oh so popular 'Islamist' government in Ankara?

Yep, but they're Americans that bought MBAs and made crappy cowboy films, we don't need more evidence that they're stupid. Gül, for all his faults has a PhD in industrial engineering; he can read FFS.Originally posted by amcdonald View PostBin Laden was a CIA stooge, so yes they can be that short sighted

Perhaps it might have changed a little recently.....Originally posted by RedSauce View PostTurkey were never arming them, they were more a sympathizer than a supporter, recently they have tried to distance themselves from them.

That unpopular Turkish prime minister will win the next election so you can hardly call him unpopular. While he is unpopular in the modern town and cities in the countryside he can do no wrong.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostIndeed...... The current unpopular pro-Islamist president supports the extremists in Syria - quite strange for such a secular country and I hope it changes when he get's the boot next time the elections come round.
There is a general problem around the middle east where the military managed governments have spent decades keeping out of the local fights while their religious leaders wanted them to get involved. Now the countries have religious leaders they wish to join in the local fights much to the military's disgust.
