IIRC last time we had this discussion the ONS blue book reckoned that Scotland had the highest GVA per head in the UK after London & the SE.

That is true, I didn't say the North was prosperous either. In fact I've taken to saying ScotNorthland (which includes Wales/NI) as a distinct economic region from the People's Republic of London (which includes the SE)
There is net outflow from the latter to the former.

Furthermore, I reckon the two "economies" are de-coupling i.e. London is moving further ahead of the rest, and I reckon has its own dynamic now.
