Well, I'm glad there's a trace of the famous Blitz spirit around still. Seems awfully un-British to run away the moment a few bombs start getting lobbed over.

In the museum in Wandsworth they sell a map called "Where the bombs fell" which shows all the WWII bombs and V1s and V2s that landed just in Wandsworth. Pretty scary to look at actually. Probably not as scary as a map of Berlin, but still...

And despite the headlines of 20 or 20 thousand being stranded their only around 5 thousand are currently being evacuated. Most of those holding dual nationality are staying put.

He was a Commander and was busted back to Lt Commander

Traditionally the RN has always had a strong Med presence but in any case we're only talking two ships here.

How come so many RN ships just happened to be in and around the Med this time of the year - Summer cruise?

Its because we are such an adventurous sort.

Whilst trekking through the Himalayas some years ago I had to register at a police outpost en-route. The local bobby kept a wall-chart of the nationalities of the mountaineers that came through. The UK represented three times any other nationality.

Package tour in Basra... excellent idea!

Royal Navy sailing in to help the now 30,000 Brits living in Beirut.

Hmm, Lebanon = former French colony so French hire a small ferry to take off just 2,000 French citizens.

How come we end up with some 30,000 British passport holders in Beirut and have to send in half the RN to rescue them?
