    We've just had some here. Obviously they were limp-wristed, shandy-drinking, southern hailstones.

    That happened to a colleague about a decade ago. He was driving a convertible at the time and from sunshine to hail he didn't have time to put the hood up. He told us that large hailstones are pretty painful.

    The bodywork was severely dented and the insurance company wouldn't pay up under an Act of God clause, but the government declared it as a natural disaster and released funds for such repairs.
