I don't really understand what a sockie is. But I appreciate the variety of answers on this thread.

Certificates merely get you past the gatekeeper (be that an agent or HR) most of the time you don't need them.
WES. INVHO The only reason for doing training courses is to differentiate one's CV from the crowd.

I think courses are only usefull if you intend to use the knowlage in your daily tasks, otherwise you will forget most of it in a few weeks/months.

Do they provide a final certificate or something that proves your attendance ?

Did you considered any other website ?

Not sure - they might do but no one cares about it if they do. Sorry I think you missed my point.

The cert etc is irrelevant, it was just way of learning the basics of a related technology (reelevant buzz words, syntax etc). It would not get me a job or anything, it just meant I knew a little more than the other guys on the team so I was the front runner to take the task up.

You would be surpised how clueless I am - however, the client was looking at updating their GUI as the one they have is a little old and I wanted in, there are only 3 team members and no one really knew anything about the newer stuff.
So I used PluralSight to go through some courses in Javascript and HTML5 so I knew enough to be able to do it.

Made sense to me at the time and it still does.

As for being a sockie, no. Although I am not sure how I would prove that so you will have to take my word for it.
