    Crossroads time

HTC One X was my choice, when I hit the same crossroads of upgrade time.
It has been as good as gold, as the replacement for the old HTC Desire.
Considered the S3, but the case is such poor quality.
I might go for the extra screen size of the Samsung Note II for my next one though.

I find the nexus 7 ideal for chucking in a bag, I take it to work every day which I probably wouldn't do with a bigger tab.

6 out of the 7 people I work with have bought a N7 since I got it at launch, that includes 2 iPad owning apple zealots!

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

In the end I bought an Xperia P for £150 (hotukdeals) and went with GiffGaff, it's perfectly adequate for me as I also have a Nexus 7.

I am starting to wonder why I bothered as my Desire was just as good.
Aha! You had to keep checking the google store. They made another batch available just before christmas so ordered the 16gig version.

TBH, I was on the verge of cancelling and getting either the Acer Liquid Gallant Duo (which is strangely going up in price!) and the Acer Mobile Cloud (which is going down equally as fast!) but the 4 turned up just in the nick of time.

Got the wife a Nexus 7 for Christmas. Nice sized tablet for her but a tad too small for me. Prefer my Acer iconia A510. Would probably get the Nexus 10 if going for a new tablet now.

Yeah...... but the battery was knacked, the screen was scratched, the memory was a bit flaky. And also, if it's on a contract then the handset cost is part of the monthly payment - so why wouldn't you have a shiney new one when you're already paying for it? My monthly cost is less that the previous contract.

It's a fair point though, if I was payg i'd probably have just got a new battery from ebay and not thought twice about it.

I think the removable SD card is a thing of the past - One X doesn't have it, don't think the iPhone has either. You can probably just connect the usb and use it as an external drive, but you wouldn't be able to swap the card between phones or use in a camera or anything.

If that's important you might have to look elsewhere.

Primary uses are internet browsing, email, SMS, reading PDFs and apps like google drive, skydrive, one note, ebay, wikipedia, IMDB and so on. The phone part only has to be serviceable, I hardly ever use it. I get a 300 minutes a month and they would probably last me a year. SD card is handy for music and docco and enables it to double as a USB stick. I have a 32GB card in there at the moment. The latest screens are all HD which I guess is handy for porn when working away. Camera I'm not massively bothered about, I have two canon DSLRs and a fairly decent camcorder amongst others, although I do use the phone one for capturing funny things I see when out and about (shop names, comedy signs and graffiti and so on) and posting them on facebook.

I'd be most impressed with something I could actually write on like an actual pad rather than feeling like I'm painting the ceiling with a roller.

Yes that annoys me, I can't even get the latest google play app on my desire Z and it still has 5 months left to run. WTF is that about? I think that might actually be the network not pushing the upgrades out TBH as I have it on my unbranded "original" desire.

Samsung was the other option, probably not a lot in it but I already had HTC and was happy with it.

There was a pretty good review of the two in an article that was aimed at the everyday user not just a comparison of specs down to whether one had an extra pixel in the bottom corner etc... I think the result was it was like trying to decide between a Mclaren and a Ferrari F1 car when all you needed was a functional family car. Neither beats the other enough technically for anyone to notice so was down to pure personal choice. Nice to see an article written like that IMO.
