The only difference for England though is you can also get in if you say you are muslim or require asylum (I wouldnt try that line in Australia as you are likely to be sent to some god forsaken detention centre in the middle of nowhere (then again, probably reminds their inmates of their native homes ) or if you claim not letting you in infringes upon your human rights and that Mrs C Blair will be acting as your solicitor

I have to admit that I dont know if people can get into Oz by claiming that their parents/grandparents came from Oz but moved away but I know for sure that is the case for Aussies coming over here... in fact my mate is one of them. It's called claiming Right of Abode

I've worked with a few aussies and kiwi's. Their view on the UK.

1. Like the culture (the pubs and clubs they mean )
2. The pay is good here compared with back home for IT
3. The tax system is easy to dodge here (most of them rip the tax man off with offshore bank accounts and the like).
4. It is a good base to tour Europe.
5. We speaka de English

So they come here (on some tulipty "holiday" visa), earn wonga, get pissed, see Europe, save money and avoid tax and then go home and put a big deposit on a house down under and live happily ever after.

yup... I'd also add to that that a lot of them don't even have to bother with the holiday visa since most of them can claim some kind of ancestry rights... ie. their parents/grandparents were british therefore we just let their sprogs/grand sprogs back in with out a word.

Yeah they would not sack you....just move you in a 'strategic resource positioning re-organisation' .....

not sure why they stay... most of the kwis and aussies I know are really home sick and can't wait to get back... having said that at least one of them is in the process of buying a house over here

I know a lot of the time the initial reason for coming over here is cos the UK is a good base for traveling and also the wages here are good which means they can save loadsa money before going back and being able to buy property out right over there.

perhaps they stay cos us pommes are just so lovely and friendly?!

They're both bigg(ish) countries but they're not overpopulated in the same way as the UK, therefore there are only so many barstaff required in Aus/NZ, so they have to come over here for the work.

well it can take up to a year to process teh application apparently so they wouldn't be getting any phone calls immediately after my probation... and even if they did, what can they do?! sack me for exploring my options?! ooo if only they would then I could take them to court and get a nice big pay out!!! would come in handy for the emmigration funds

I've had a sucessful skills assessment, I'm now just waiting for my probationary period to finish at my new job (yes I'm a permie) before sending off my visa application since there is a very real popssiblity of the immigration people ringing your employer which perhaps wouldn't look great whilst I was still on probation!
