Well that may be so, but I still don't understand how anyone can get details from just using your Exec number on the BA website - I've been using it for years and have always asked to provide a password.
(Doesn't mean you can't guess the password etc...)

At the bottom of the article it said that BA have closed this hole, however I think the point was that the information required by the US is being collected by companies that have no business interest (i.e. get no money) in making sure it is secure.

How can you get someone's details from the BA website with an Executive Card number and no password?

Almost any combination of 4,3,3,5 letter words will have the same effect. It's a bug in the unicode detection routines in notepad.
this can get upset
for example.

It's just how notepad tries to detect the char encoding (ANSI, Unicode, UTF-8, UTF-16) and for short sentences it sometimes gets it wrong.
You guys.
As if Microsoft are involved in government conspiracies.

My how I laughed when I read this extract ....
However, the suspicion is that the distance over which the signal can be read relates only to the weakness of the signal sent out by the readers. What if the readers sent out much stronger signals? Potentially, then, criminals with powerful readers could suck out your information as you passed by.
The Government denies that this scenario is viable, but, in January, Dutch security specialists Riscure successfully read and de-encrypted information from its country's new biometric passports from a distance of about 30ft in just two hours.
