I ran a race that went through some Florida swamp a few years ago, didnt think to much of the bites on my legs, neck and cheek (about 20 in all) but started itching like hell a couple of days later. The day after that they all turned into saucer shaped red circles and the day after that they putrefied. Looked like my body was melting and the ones on my cheek & neck looked particularly disgusting.

Went to hospital and nurse who looked at them hadnt seen anything like them. Luckily some antibiotics sorted me out in a couple of days.

Are you sure it's not cellulitis?

About 50% of the insect bites I get develop into cellulitis and I end up having to take antibiotics. I don't have any of the normal reasons for it to happen (diabetes, poor circulation etc). Some people are more susceptible to it than others apparently. I'd go to a doctor and get it checked out.

I have never been bitten ever so i thought i would just google why that is and it would appear its not just women that find me unattractive, and i thought it was just my aftershave

Why do some people get bitten by mosquitoes and not others? – Avoiding Bites – Less Mosquito with incognito

Firstly, lets look at how a female (they are the only ones to bite – the males feed off nectar) mosquito locates a blood meal in the first place.

All humans emit kairomones common ones include CO2 and lactic acid, around 48 have been identified so far. It is thought that different species of mosquito prefer different kairomones, in the same way as some people prefer spicy and others don’t. All of us have our own kairomone ‘signature” which is probably unique in the same way as a fingerprint.
Therefore, anyone who is breathing will draw female mosquitoes towards them. So why do those lucky 20% not get bitten?
It has been demonstrated that these people have certain chemicals in their blood, sweat and tears that repels mosquitoes making them unattractive. Some of these naturally produced molecules may also be masking individual kairomones, in the same way as incognito anti-mosquito spray camouflages users.

Well the drive in was really rough and we land up grounding our vehicle knowing it's going to take some time to fix. When we got out we could see another abandoned vehicle, so we walked over and had a look in. There was a dead body in the driving seat and in the back where all these giant, weird coloured egg objects. All of a sudden one of them opened and this thing clamped itself on my face. Anyway my colleagues took me back to the car to make sure I was OK. After a while I got these really bad cramps. I assumed it was last nights curry, but all of a sudden this horrible lizard thing with snappy teeth burst out of my stomach and scampered off. Well I was pretty ill I can tell you, but I stitched myself up with a needle and thread I had for mending shirts, fixed the car and left my colleagues at the site when I went back to the hotel, had a shower and then popped into the office. Luckily for me I was still able to invoice, and double bonus my colleagues never made it back either and I got an extension.
And you tell the kids that these days and they don't believe you.
