The space indusrty in the Uk is worth about £8 Billion and employs 25000 directly and a further 60000 indirectly. So we are active in the space indusrty - we just don't fire off our own people into space
That reminds me of a joke. Young lad and his Dad are looking at the night sky. Lad says "I want to be shot into space". Dad says "You would have been if your mum had not got me drunk that night."
Firstly I doubt they would plan a mission to Mars. Even if they did seriously start on that, it will take them so much time that the other countries would have already built houses on there. Heck, they have been building a light combat aircraft since 1990 and it still hasnt been certified.
