The Times has found a memo that tells staff they have to give out NINO's even if they suspect they documents they're looking at are forgeries.

AtW: Actually I guess they were bored and wanted some fun. They don't have to do all that. The BA rules clearly state that if you have a job they have to give you a NINO.
For tulips and giggles you can just go down the pub and buy a NINO, a few years back some BA staff were selling spare ones for a £10 a time.

I was issued my NI number in 2001 - at the time I was on work permit: it took about 2.5 hours (!) with very very indepth interview on like everything I ever did in the UK with addresses and paper proof of my words, ie passport stamps, degrees etc - this was far more than ever was even needed to get UK visa, something that was and I think still is for those who wish to travel to the UK from Russia.

Arrogant New Lie incompetence:
National Insurance numbers were issued to 3,300 suspected illegal immigrants in 2004-5 because of a loophole in the application system, it has emerged.
The Department of Work and Pensions has admitted job centre staff must hand out the numbers to people who have found employment but have no legal papers.
It has pledged to close the loophole "as soon as possible".
Ministers say the numbers do not grant illegal workers access to the NHS and benefits as there are separate checks.
Yeah right. Since when has any hospital asked you for your NI number?
Mr Murphy refused to apologise when questioned on BBC Radio 4's PM programme.
He said the government would rather concentrate on changes which would "get it right and close the loophole".
