You've got to have one if you want to get at some of the download areas on microsoft.com.

I managed to avoid hotmail right until some time last year, but had to buckle if I wanted the goods.

good luck with that, my lad had his hotmail account block and it sent the unlock code to an old address he had no access to, many many many emails to them later and guess what, no response

WTF. It then tries to send a code to an alternate email address but end bit is .c0m (note the zero).

Hmmm. How to get it working again?

Email them and they'll ask you a few security questions.

They'll then reset things for you.
