Obviously the answer is "the" and the sun have just got the number of letters wrong - just put all 3 letters in the one box.

But 1 down is "round thing with cheeks that you sit on" (4). So once we have that, 1 across should be a doddle.
    Bum.

    Sofa.

Nope. It is indeed difficult today,

Have you got 1 down yet? That'll give the first letter, which should help.

    Anyone?
I thought it might by tits, but it turns out that they're some kind of two-legged feathered flying thing.

I reckon you must have one of the other clues wrong.

EO has a soft spot for the ladies - it's a function of age and alcohol.

Therefore he will always end the competition at a point that is advantageous to the girls team.

Ipso facto, quam minimum credula postero, mine's a pint!

I think it went down to the last question, it was neck and neck.

and the last question was prefixed with - 'last Question'... in bold

When I was on the team, we got thrashed by the ladies.

Even though I googled as quickly as I could.

So, given that it's impossible that the ladies could be clever enough to know the answers without googling, EO must have fixed the gig.
