Just for the record, tea at the Dorchester was excellent, but I'm not sure was worth £100 for 2 people. Claridges was a bit of a let-down to be honest. We ordered off the lunch menu, with half a bottle of reasonably-priced red, and a few G&T's and the bill came to £140. The starters and main course were ok, not brilliant, and tiny portions. The cheese-board was out of this world though, and saved the day for me. Service was impeccable throughout. At the end of the day though, it just wasn't worth the outlay.

Jessica's is another one for the cuisine notebook LB - many thanks. I used to frequent B'ham many moons ago - sadly when I was poorer and could only stick my nose against the windows of such establishments.

If you are around Surrey, here are a couple of good ones:-

The Latymer at Penny Hill Park Hotel, Bagshot
    The 4 Seasons in Chobham

I'm hoping to go to the 4 Seasons in a few weeks on arrival of this big purchase order...

Going on Friday afternoon to Copenhagen - I've got my pictures of threaded already printed out for a bit of afternoon stalking. Definitely will try and get to those restaurants you recommended.

Michelin starred restaurant? Could you tell me which one tomorrow (to avoid the stalking potential)?

Thanks btw for the restaurant recommendations for Copenhagen - will keep you posted on them next week as we are no confirmed to go (business class to delay any divorce proceedings)
As it turned out, the traffic around Heathrow was staggeringly clear. I was stunned to say the least.

Sorry to hear that you and the wife are no longer seeing eye to eye, hyperD. You have my sympathies.

If you feel like cheering yourself up, the restaurant I went to was Jessica's. I had the seven course tasting menu (which was actually eight courses as the chef offered me an appetiser to try he had just put together and was trying out for the first time) and was totally bowled over in terms of quality of food and quality of service. The highest recommendation. Two courses to particularly single out for praise were the ham terrine with squid ravioli and the poached turbot with beetroot sorbet.

Hope you can still manage to sample those two restaurants in Copenhagen. I couldn't stand by and let Threaded recommend you to try curry and hotdogs when there are a couple of real gems there.

Turns out your prescience was uncanny, Zeity old bean. Play didn't start until 16:45. Fortunately it doesn't rain in the bar and at least it was the right result in the end!

Speaking of Toasters,I was going to indulge myself and buy myself an Iron as I might be tempted to go for some interviews soon, and this would be handy to avoid that too*busy*to*iron*ones*shirt look, altought the truth be told I was too mean to buy one.

The best price I could see around Brussels shops was a Philips Iron reduced from 45 Euros to 22 Euros.

However when I mentioned this to someone I knew he offered for gratis a very old surplus iron he had, he was now retired and so ironing was no longer necessary, I thought perhaps the abilty to state that you no longer required an iron was an indicator of personal freedom.

I dont know about you,but I suspect all men detest ironing ,and the whole thing is a kind of conspiracy revenge affair conconted by the domestic industrial complex and some bitter divorcees type, probably ex HR.

You know the sort I mean.

Anyway altough it does look rather like an antique with a dinky old light bulb at the helm , the luminousity of which indicates the heat of the aforementioned Iron, it does what it says on the tin, thereby saving an unnecessary expenditure of 22 Euros.

That said and the iron acquistion now being a fait accomplit, now I have to rethink my weekend plans, I wonder what the weather is like in Rotherham ?

Oh yes, least I forget I dont have a toaster either, but thats another story, time now for a cup of tea.

I shall be installing a nice new Sony head unit worth more than the car in my rusty rover, eating a Greazza Hut and going shopping at Waitrose. I will also be partaking in pouring drain cleaner in my neighbour's fuel tank in his w*nkermobile when he buggers off on holiday as I heard him say today.
