Nope they've being trying to pimp me out for contracts already, thankfully I have the polite excuse that I'm about to be parachuted in to a year at a client in LondonOriginally posted by Freamon View PostI assume given this was posted earlier today you've had time to put them out of their misery by now?
It's hard to be rude when they're a friends son

No it would be more soul destroying than a tulip permie IT role, but there's always some muppet that will do itOriginally posted by d000hg View PostBut on the other hand do you believe any decent developer (or worked in any field) would be happy working in a recruiter?
That sounds more like headhunting - the real kind not CV parsing - to me.

The old man used to be a decent developer back in the day, and he's always very happy working in a recruiter.Originally posted by d000hg View PostBut on the other hand do you believe any decent developer (or worked in any field) would be happy working in a recruiter?

Don't you hate dealing with people who want to leech of your skills and try to market you who have no more knowledge of your work than your friends IT illiterate elderly relatives ?
When you're dealing with people who sound like they've come straight from being a saleman for Comet or a double glazing company etc it's pretty tiresome

Sounds utterly soul-destroying for the developer, not to mention bad for the agency when you get some socially awkward person manning the phones

Like having Groundhog Day in Glengarry Glen Ross I presumeOriginally posted by Platypus View PostThey won't last. I know a few people who've had a go at working for recruiters. All have said it's the worst job they've ever had. Utterly soul destroying.
And that sort of high pressure sales environment just seems to dehumanise most agents

I think it's character forming for young people to have had at least one soul destroying, demeaning and entry level job. It motivates some of them to want to climb their way out of the gutter (although others find they are quite suited to the gutter).

Talking crap and having social skills are orthogonal. Being a nerd and having social skills are not

So someone who does not talk bollux the whole time is socially awkward?Originally posted by d000hg View PostAre you suggesting agencies should hire developers as sales-people? After a brief spell temping for ASOS, they've now secured a job as a wait for it....
IT consultant for a agency
, so they're now a glorified salesman with no sales experience
Worst of all they've already started their sales pitch on me, and trying to get me to explain what all these weird stuff like C# (or C squiggle as he first called it), and what's an agile is it a programming language
Don't you hate it when people you know become the enemy grrrr, and worse I know an agent
The horror, the horror
