    My Father-in-law has a Border Collie. He can retrieve all of his toys by name but that's about the sum of his brainpower. The Collie's quite smart as well.

    Ah border collies, they're renowned for their intelligence - In that case I'm sure it's not made up, and "alleviate" makes a lot more sense.
