No shame in being poor. Happens to us all, whether you're young or newly divorced.
When we first moved in together, we had less than £10 per week to spend on food for two people. Bakery 1p/2p/5p reductions, cheap meat and value pasta goes a long way.

They do have a "TULIP" range of bacon and sausages. Really. I've not tried them, I can't think why.Originally posted by wim121 View PostAll they are doing is changing the name slightly and getting rid of the naff cheap looking garbage.
However they say they want to have the new value range with no artificial flavourings, colourings, msg's, etc etc, so no taste and no point in buying it really.

Your life must be so dull.Originally posted by d000hg View PostBBC News - R.I.P. Tesco Value
I used to love the Value brand as a newly married graduate; "it's cheap and crap" was unusually honest and powerful branding. Will be sad to see it go in favour of 'fake' brands - when you wanted the cheapest it was easy to look for the red & blue stripes

Aldi/Lidl is where it's at if you want a bag full of groceries and change from a £20 note. But it's also worth checking out all the supermarkets apart from evil Tesco for loss-leaders and cheap stuff near sell by date.

I have notices those horrendous Tesco stores on my way to Waitrose, thought they were for the homeless and poor.

The naff packaging was virtually the whole attraction. It stood out and it was cool to have the same branding from pasta to coffee to shredders to kettles.Originally posted by wim121 View PostAll they are doing is changing the name slightly and getting rid of the naff cheap looking garbage..
