Council house bands need revisiting. a £1M house pays a few hundred more than a £300K 3 bedroom in a dicey area down south.
But at least Mr Monaco or Mr Milk Carton might actually pay some UK tax under this system.
It might be worth revisiting all the subsidies it seems half of the rich are getting paid farming subsidies.
Of course within months all the serious money's houses will become charities or similar so they don't pay it.

I wonder - would Her Majesty be also forced to pay higher rate of tax?
If they use council tax bands then surely it would be fixed amount for any house over £X, thus people who are really wealthy like DimPrawn will pay pittance, not fair!!!

Of course they are presuming that people who own valuable homes are cash rich enough to pay the extra tax.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostVince Cable: Wealthy homeowners 'must pay their share' with mansion tax - Telegraph

Tax what you earn, tax what you spend, tax what you buy, tax what you sell, even tax things for just existing.

About time they got something right.Originally posted by AtW View PostHmmm, seems tempting trade 50% tax that affects more people than mansion tax that affects less, in the future though it would be harder to remove mansion tax and lib dems know it - they want that tax to be their legacy.

Tax on breathing as well, don't forget. We all laughed it wouldn't happen, and now it has.

How about a soap tax? Then the soap dodgers would be tax dodgers and they'd have to think twice before sounding off.

Ah yes - how about a beloved new "EURO solidarity surcharge".Originally posted by doodab View PostSomething like the German "solidarity surcharge" would be perfect. Simply charge an extra 5% of the tax you're already charging.
That would be very very popular I recon.

Can the dear politicians not come up with the next level of meta tax? Are they really that short on creativity?
