Diesel owner should be forced to pay a smugness tax on top of the normal fuel duty.

I think Ministers were always tying tulip down when Brown walked into the room....Originally posted by Harmonic View PostNot just them, as far as that lot are concerned Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Vauxhall etc... The gap at Kempshott Sainsburys has been creeping up over the last few months. Our theory is that there are a lot of diesel company car drivers in Hatch Warren/Beggarwood so demand for diesel is higher. Also with the next nearest fuel station out of action people are less likely to drive to find cheaper fuel.Originally posted by wurzel View PostI needed to fill up with diesel the other night in Basingstoke so I drove across town to Sainsbury's where I expected it to be cheaper.
£143.9 / litre for diesel & £134.9 / litre for unleaded. A whole 9p / litre difference; I had to ask the girl on the checkout if it was some kind of mistake.
But if you use Sainsburys car insurance you get a 5p off a litre voucher every month so there's less point to shopping around.

More and more people are being priced off the road in some ways I think it is a good thing as the roads seem less congested, obviously the downside is the price. When you think about it though it only used to be those that were fairly well off that could afford to drive and nowadays some households have multiple vehicles.

Just filled up.....£1.47.9 a litre for diesel....
I must admit, there is a correlation to the amount it costs, and how many people are on the road. Lately, the 250 mile trip to visit an old client site takes just under 3.5 hours. Used to take over 4 a few years ago.
Soon it will be just us rich folks on the road. As long as the client covers my diesel, I am ok with that.
