When I lived in Birmingham it always amused me to see people buying bottled water, when you could get Welsh mountain spring water out of the tap.

A lot of the water in Brum comes from... wait for it... Wales...

During the drought of 76 the Welsh moaned like hell claiming the English water companies were stealing their water before they were put in their place reminded by the fact the English water companies built the resovoirs that they got the water from. Wonder how long before they start complaining again.

A water butt? Missus got annoyed when she caught me fitting one to her butt last week. Pity, that catchment area would have solved our crisis and Ethiopia's too probably.

Wonder how all those people getting/got loft conversions are going to cope if we get standpipes - most of these people had the tank in the loft removed so will have no reserve and when the water is switched off they will be stuck. A lot of people have moved to hot water on demand systems so removed the emersion heater too - bad decision. I guess us older ones remember the last drought in '76 and won't get caught this time. I think people will suffer more this time around due to these decisions.

As for washing the car and watering the garden I have a water butt and being an ex builder know how to modify the waste water system to water the garden from the waste of the bath and dishwasher - a plan b evolving
